Wrap It Up

It has been super long since my lazy ass has posted anything and I wish I was on the prowl for something marginally more exciting that a cozy black scarf. But last night when was I bundling up for a evening out I realized my current black scarf was lame and have requested one for Christmas. But for those of you with a "give me a christmas list" types in your life...you know that you must be explicit with what you want or you will end up with something sketchy that you have to fake fondness for when you open it. So, my apologies for posting the fruits of my black scarf search labor, but these are the ones that I am hoping make their way under the tree for me.

This mohair muffler scarf doesn't scream "will keep your uber warm when its 20 degrees out", but it looks super soft and might be an excuse to get two. Check it out at J. Crew (enter the code Holiday at checkout for an extra 20% off through Monday) for $29.50.

I like this ruffled scarf at the gap for $29.50. The ruffles are fun and can sass up a plain jane ensemble.

Forever 21 never disappoints with inexpensive basics. They carry a basic knit scarf in black for only $9.80.

A little more expensive than these others, but Banana Republic has a cozy-looking cable knit scarf that's worth a look for $41.30.

I heart cashmere. This one is a keeper at Nordstrom, but isn't recession-friendly at $78.00.

Illusion of Two Pieces

I'm not sure if this is a tricky look when it comes to fit, but damn I love these looks on models...which means I have yet to test drive one myself yet. This Ciarah dress by Theory is on sale at shopbop for $147.50 and amazingly they still have a good range of sizes. An d, I really think this is a look I could rock for more than a season, which is something I am trying to focus on this season in terms of expanding the ol wardrobe.

Greatest Tee Ever

The Gap is rolling these days for me. I am loving lots of stuff the chain has to offer and this tee is the softest, most comfy, flattering t-shirt ever! It hits and fits just right and comes in a bunch of colors. I literally had to put two back down and settled on the orange and grey options. And if stripes aren't your thing, they have solids too. I have found they are perfect with jeans and can work under blazers and sweaters for work. Don't take my word for it...check them out yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Bananas For A Dress Sale

40 % off is nothing to sneeze at...and Banana Republic is offering up that discount on their dresses. I got lucky when I dropped off some old coats and sweaters for Goodwill (BR is taking these through tomorrow, so if you have time go through your closets) and I spotted a dress that had caught my eye weeks ago. Online they didn't have my size, but in the store I got lucky. So here's hoping you might get lucky too.

Pick from Piperlime Peeps

You have a few more days to take advantage of Piperlime's 20% off sale and its not just the lame summer stuff either. You can truly find some great stuff for the fall and into the winter. Here are two of my faves...just depends on how badly our crappy economy is hitting your personally as to which one you might want to scoop up for yourself.

Not So Limited

It had been awhile since I'd been into The Limited and even longer since I'd purchased something from them. I used to work in pretty close proximity to one and a gal pal and I would lunch there and grab some good deals. But I had sorta forgot about them, in part because they didn't allow me the option of online shopping. Well that's history, because The Limited can help you pass your lunch hour from the comfort of your cubicle now. In addition to a cute sweater that I snagged last month, here are a few items that caught my eye.

Two Button Topper (this is my go-to sweater right now) - $59.50

Ruffle Top - $39.50
Shirtdress - $59.99

Peacoat - $128.00

Old Navy Wool Coat

This wool coat at Old Navy has a great silhouette, comes in your standard black and three other sensational jeweled-tones (green, blue, and magenta), and...the best part...its only $89.50. Its rare you find a cute coat under $100. Grab one while you can!

Scarf One Up

I have always been a sucker for a cozy scarf during the winter months, but I am really diggin them as a go-to accessory this fall. Here are some of my faves:

Khaki Alert

Last weekend I started rotating out my summer and lightweight options and going through my fall items when I noticed that I don't have a good pair of khaki pants to get me through the winter. All of my options are lightweight fabrics that are best left for the warmer months. So this weekend, I am on the hunt. My husband is interested in doing a little fall wardrobe shopping himself, but I need to do some recognizance because he will want to hit four stores...J. Crew, Macy's, Levi's, and the Gap and then head home. If he finds items that work, super. If he doesn't, game over. That's not exactly how I work. I can't come home empty-handed. As such, early research for possibilities is crucial.

City Fit Watson Pant - $59.50

Straight Leg Pant - $54.50

St. John's Bay Boot Cut Pants - $40.00

Docker's Iconic Fit Pant - $40.00

Emmys Electric Ladies

I don't normally post this type of thing, but I was really captivated by a few of TV's leading ladies gown choices from last night's Emmys. Here are my faves:

Brooke Shields - Absolutely stunning. The color looks amazing on her.

Debra Messing - I am always impressed with Debra's award attire choices and this black Monique Lhuillier is gorgeous.

Heidi Klum - I love her gown, particularly the unique twist on an asymmetrical silhouette, although she can make a paper sack look chic.

Evangeline Lilly - This color can be disaster on someone else, but looks fantastic on the Lost star.

Olivia Wilde - I can't tell if this dress captivated me because its one of the few non-strapless ones that I saw or that I really like the elegant grecian look on her. Either way, she rounds out my top 5.

Savvy Sale Pieces

Sadly I awoke way too early this morning and decided to use my early morning to scan sites for some online sales. The trick to buying sale items at this time of year is finding pieces that will can work for the early fall or that will work when spring comes back around. Here are a few items that can function for fall and end-of-summer prices.

Chic Coats

Although there's been a slight chill in the air the past few mornings, I realize it's a little too early to truly need a coat, sure maybe a sweater or light jacket, but not a cozy, warm coat. But its never too early to at least check out a few chic options that you can keep in the back of your mind for when you do need to add that extra layer. I happen to be a bit of a coat hound. Every year I buy a new one (although last season I waited until the end of winter to grab a good deal). This year, I am focused on a belted pieces that look very lady-like. I could truly use a new black coat, but I seem to be drawn to "black with a twist". Here are a few that have caught my eye so far:

Soia & Kyo Gemma Belted Coat - $216.00

Via Spiga Sophia Belted Coat - $285.00

DKNY Payton Coat - $269.00

Soi & Kyo Chevron Coat - $380.00

Apt. 9 Asymmetrical Coat - $120.60

Club Collar Wool-Blend Coat - $129.99

Abbott Coat - $328.00

Fall for Blazin Pieces

Tailored blazers are a stylish alternative to the cardigans for the fall, but this isn't the shrunken blazer of year's past. Shop for a classic piece that looks like it was made especially for you where the the sleeves aren't too short and the length hits you near or at your hips. A few options include:

Gap Tweed Blazer - $98.00

Gap Long Tailored Jacket - $88.00

J. Crew Velvet Ecole Jacket - $168.00

Kohls Herringbone Jacket - $44.80

Jill Stuart Four Button Beverly Jacket - $315.00

Banana Republic Tweed Jacket - $175.00

Martin + Osa One Button Flannel Blazer- $190.00
