Wrap It Up

It has been super long since my lazy ass has posted anything and I wish I was on the prowl for something marginally more exciting that a cozy black scarf. But last night when was I bundling up for a evening out I realized my current black scarf was lame and have requested one for Christmas. But for those of you with a "give me a christmas list" types in your life...you know that you must be explicit with what you want or you will end up with something sketchy that you have to fake fondness for when you open it. So, my apologies for posting the fruits of my black scarf search labor, but these are the ones that I am hoping make their way under the tree for me.

This mohair muffler scarf doesn't scream "will keep your uber warm when its 20 degrees out", but it looks super soft and might be an excuse to get two. Check it out at J. Crew (enter the code Holiday at checkout for an extra 20% off through Monday) for $29.50.

I like this ruffled scarf at the gap for $29.50. The ruffles are fun and can sass up a plain jane ensemble.

Forever 21 never disappoints with inexpensive basics. They carry a basic knit scarf in black for only $9.80.

A little more expensive than these others, but Banana Republic has a cozy-looking cable knit scarf that's worth a look for $41.30.

I heart cashmere. This one is a keeper at Nordstrom, but isn't recession-friendly at $78.00.

Scarf One Up

I have always been a sucker for a cozy scarf during the winter months, but I am really diggin them as a go-to accessory this fall. Here are some of my faves:

Shopping Blues II

On Sunday I mentioned that with the economy in the crapper, updating one's wardrobe with new pieces for the fall might not be an option for folks. So in addition to grabbing a few fashion-forward items at budget-worthy prices (see Shopping Blues post), adding updated accessories to the basics you already have might be a good Plan B. Items to consider include statement jewelry (think oversized cuffs and necklaces), purple shoes and bags, biker-inspired boots and bags, oxfords, and oversized clutches. Here are a few examples that won't break the bank.

Carmen Clutch

Every gal needs a go to black clutch for evenings out and this option at Amici Accessories is an affordable and chic option. I really like the woven look and large buckle. Add the Carmen clutch to your collection for $48.

Dogeared Canvas Bag in Kiss

If you are looking to do your part to be environmentally-responsible and make a statement without saying a word, check out this canvas bag at Pink Mascara. What a fun way to carry your purchases without being wasteful.

Bill Adler Fruit and Veggies Belt

Outside of loving the creative name of this "fruit and veggies" belt, I love the design. Ordinarily, I wouldn't be a fan. Historically, I am not a fan of one item, be it a shoe, bag, or belt, doing the work of two or more things. I feel like if you need a black belt, get one and then if you need a brown one, splurge and get that too. But combining black and gray (and white and brown, which isn't pictured), works really well.

Ombre Scarves

So this scarf lets you play with the ombre trend without investing in a dress or skirt. Unfortunately, they only have the purple one still available, but the $45 price is good.

Bold Flower Shawl

I have done a pretty cruddy job of posting accessories lately, so let me make it up to you with this great scarf at Esprit for only $25.50. It comes in blue (pictured) and tangerine and will serve you well through the spring and summer with jeans and tee or with a dress.

Woven Rope Belt

Need a non-brown or black belt? Look no further than the Woven Rope Belt at Urban Outfitters. I really like the ivory one, but the rust one is a good option if you want to add color to a neutral outfit and don't want an orangey color next to you skin. I think you would be hard pressed to find a cuter belt at such a great price, $20.
